Why Shark Tank’s 5th Emmy Is a Win for All Entrepreneurs

Shark Tank Won its 5th Emmy Awards, well deserved. Entrepreneurship has been around in one form or another since man was first created, but Shark Tank has popularized it like never before.

Inc , Entrepreneur , Black Enterprise and other publications have showcased entrepreneurship in various ways over the years as well. However, NOTHING has shined the light on the entrepreneurs as much as Shark Tank – the HIT ABC TV show.

Shark Tank is hosted by Mark Cuban, Daymond John, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin O’Leary and Rob Herjavec. It’s weekly show, broadcast to millions of viewers on TV. It gives a snapshot of the hustle, grit, risks and rewards of entrepreneurship.

Yes, we saw with Scrub Daddy and Ring that you can make MILLIONS being an entrepreneur. If not millions, you can still live a great life.

However, we also saw that you can go into debt, lose everything and end up impoverished, divorced and with no friends as well.

Shark Tank made entrepreneurship “cool”, it made it understandable. It made it “normal”. Some don’t like Shark Tank and think it dramatizes things too much. I LOVE Shark Tank and can watch it 24/7.

Shark Tank has made “common” what for years was still behind closed doors.

Thank you Mark Burnett, and others, for envisioning this show and producing it. Thank you to the “main sharks” and the many fill in sharks for making Shark Tank what it is!

Shark Tank’s 5th Emmy Award win is a win for us all. It’s a VOTE for small business and for American entrepreneurship.

What Some Key Traits of Being a Successful Entrepreneur

  • Ability to figure things out
  • Ability to sell
  • Willingness to learn. You don’t have to know everything but you have to grasp concepts and get how things work
  • Persistence. Not doing the same thing over and over again, but persistence and adaptation
  • Patience
  • You should be really good at 1 or 2 things – maybe it’s numbers/accounting? maybe it’s marketing? maybe it’s leadership. Everything else you can learn “good enough” and hire someone else to help you.
  • Be able to ask for help
