The Best Creators Need Not Fear AI. A Lesson from Hollywood.

The Wall Street Journal’s CMO Today writes that while Hollywood movie studios are going to be using it A, it’s not quite good enough for full scale movie production. It’s either too “AI-ish” for a movie or not quite ready for a full length feature move.

“While content development with generative AI can enable greater creativity in preproduction, it cannot yet deliver Hollywood-level productions.”

I do believe that sooner, rather than later, AI can produce a full 2 hour feature length Hollywood film, that we’ll all enjoy.

However, what does this mean for business owners who are afraid their clients will “leave them” for AI. It won’t happen, so fast.

Yes, many clients will lessen their demand for some of your work, due to their doing much of what you offered them with their own internal AI trained teams.

However, the best of us, our clients rely on us for our deep industry expertise, creativity, speed and operational efficiencies.

Just because they CAN use AI doesn’t mean they will or want to.

Will AI drive down prices, I think so, but it’s also an opportunity to expand and grow and offer new solutions.

The best way to compete with AI is by staying close to your customers:

  • Check in with them and see what their true challenges and needs are
  • Check in with your team and understand their perspective internally and their connections to your customes
  • Keep up with your industry to understand evolving best practices
  • Keep your competitors close. Not in a slimy, bad way, but in a fair and collegial way
  • Experiment with AI tools yourself, understand them, don’t be afraid of them.
