Laying the Foundation: Living With Purpose and Intention
So, how did Justin become a real estate entrepreneur, producer, and video marketer running a global brokerage and successful YouTube channel helping entrepreneurs? Justin’s journey began with entrepreneurial parents who instilled in him a strong work ethic. So, witnessing their grit and determination in building a company from scratch fueled his desire to explore various paths, leading him from being a class clown to finding his way through different jobs and ultimately discovering his passion for real estate.
Furthermore, a turning point in Justin’s life came when he found a mentor in Mike Smith, who introduced him to the principles of servant leadership. No matter what the role — from bouncer to head marketing coordinator — Justin consistently came back to a few key principles:
- Treat people fairly.
- Work hard.
- Serve others.
Also instrumental in his entrepreneurial journey? His wife, Shannon, encouraged Justin to pursue his passions, resulting in their establishment of Prime Real Estate Brokerage and Prime Media Productions.
Now, how does an entrepreneur maintain motivation, even on those tough days when throwing in the towel seems like a viable option? Justin has a few tips to help any business owner at any stage of starting or growing a business stay committed and plod on despite the challenges.
The Importance of Consistency
Consistency is a key theme in Justin’s philosophy. He stresses the impact of small, consistent actions in business, drawing an analogy with compounding interest. Certainly, he emphasizes consistency in learning, prospecting, and delivering promises to clients.
Also, Justin observes that the failure rate in any industry is often linked to people’s lack of consistency in crucial actions.
“If you look at any industry, I bet the failure rate is directly associated with people’s lack of consistency in the actions that they are avoiding,” says Justin. Meanwhile, with every single successful entrepreneur I’ve ever studied, success (to a fault) has lied within the consistency of their willingness to apply themselves for an unreasonable enough time that they blow by the competition.”
Ways on How To Stay Consistent
- Set clear goals. Define your short-term and long-term goals. Having a clear vision of what you want to achieve provides a roadmap for your actions. Break down large goals into smaller, manageable tasks, making it easier to stay consistent.
- Create a routine. Establish a daily or weekly routine that aligns with your goals. Consistency often thrives in structured environments. Allocate specific time slots for essential tasks, ensuring they become ingrained habits over time.
- Prioritize tasks. Identify the most critical tasks that contribute directly to your goals and prioritize and tackle them consistently. When you focus on high-impact activities, you ensure your efforts yield meaningful results.
- Use reminders and alerts. Leverage technology to set reminders and alerts for important tasks. Whether through calendar apps or task management tools, these prompts can help you stay on track and prevent crucial actions from slipping through the cracks.
- Track progress. Regularly assess your progress toward your goals. Tracking your achievements reinforces the positive impact of consistency. For instance, celebrate small victories along the way, as they help build momentum.
- Build habits. Introduce new habits slowly to avoid overwhelming yourself. Consistency is more sustainable when gradually integrated into your routine. Furthermore, as each habit becomes second nature, you can add more to your repertoire.
- Identify accountability buddies. Share your goals with a trusted friend, colleague, or mentor who can act as an accountability partner. Regular check-ins provide external motivation and support, making it easier to stay consistent.
- Learn from setbacks. Acknowledge that setbacks are a natural part of any journey. Instead of viewing them as failures, see them as opportunities to learn and refine your approach. Moreover, you can adjust your strategy based on these experiences to enhance future consistency. And remember Justin’s words: “There is no true failure unless you give up.”
- Visualize success. Create a vivid mental image of your success. Visualization can be a powerful motivator, reinforcing the importance of staying consistent in your actions. Envisioning the positive outcomes of your efforts can fuel determination.
- Celebrate consistency itself. Recognize the value of consistency as an achievement in its own right. Understand that the cumulative effect of small, repeated actions can lead to significant results. Certainly, by appreciating the process, you reinforce the habit of being consistent.
Meeting Big Goals Stars With Living a Purposeful Life
Generally, Justin shares his transition from living for the world to living with purpose. Inspired by The Purpose Driven Life, Justin reflects on the value of focusing on qualities like love, grace, patience, and kindness — not to mention prioritizing personal relationships. Additionally, setting annual goals with his wife allows him to lead a purposeful life, guiding the trajectory of Prime Real Estate Brokerage and fostering intentional decision-making.
“The reason I try to be purposeful and intentional is that what gets measured gets improved,” Justin says. And the one constant I’ve seen in my life … it all came back to radical candor and being willing to look at my faults. But even more importantly, being able to point to where I want to go and then be willing to do the work consistently enough to get there. That’s why being intentional really, really does matter to me.”
After all, if we’re not being intentional, we’re not really honoring the purpose — the “why” — behind what we do.
